How we read a photograph lecture

No image is neutral, the photographer can control the context of an image but not the meaning and I think this is what I have been struggling to combat within the past few days. Due to the subject matter of my project, I have found it hard not to have an influence on what and who I capture. But is this really an issue?
I do not what to come across as some Bruce Gilden type who almost violently shoves a camera into an inspecting passerby and frankly the images created via this method are a hugely biased portrayal of individuals. The portraits I aim to produce are subtle, almost nondescript but even this is not a neutral photo.
