Derrick Greaves was a painter associated with the Kitchen Sink movement of the 1950s. The Kitchen Sink painters' celebrated the everyday life of ordinary people whilst carrying the implications of social comment. Since reviewing my work after the crit, I realised that this statement is key to my project. At the beginning of this project, I knew that I wanted to create a subtle piece of work but as the weeks went by my work became more politicised, attempting to look at the broader picture of English and British life and this was partly because of my project proposal. My proposal has elements of what I truly wanted for my project but muddled with trying to tell the bigger picture of what Britain currently is. Within my work, I have released that I cannot generalise about Britain as a whole place as I have not experienced all of it. Therefore I feel that I must tame my work and root it into what Hamworthy is as a place but also have the possibility to be read by the audience as a subtle social comment.
