Week 1

This week has been dedicated to finding a theme for my Final Major Project. Two key practitioners that i looked at for influence were John Spinks and Alec Soth as i began to look at the ideas of home, belonging and travel. Home is an important aspect in my life due my parents divorse which has caused me to question were i see home, in Weymouth with my father or in Hamworthy with my mother. For a time i lived with my father but for the majority of my life i have lived with my mother and identify Hamworthy was my true home although it is filled with both bitter and happy memories. Within my own work i can see similarities in Spinks and i think 'The New Village' will act as a strong methodology for my own work to develop.

By dedicating this week to research, i have been able to focus on what i truly want to my concept to achieve. I have especially found the 'Ping Pong conversations' book that i referenced in my Alec Soth research helpful as Soth stated the issues that he faced in his earlier work and how he had overcome them.

Thinking about the possibly to use analogue methods such as medium format cameras has also been helpful and opened opportunities to experiment. I plan to start scouting of locations with a digital camera in coming weeks which will help me decide what will be more suitable.
