Simon Roberts is a British photographer based in Brighton. His work focuses the connection between people and their environment and the notion of identity and belonging. Roberts work 'We English' is a series documenting the pastimes of the English nation whist including the important of landscape creates out of the back of a motorhome with his pregnant wife and tow-year-old daughter. We English emphasizes the importance of play, as much as work, in shaping culture. It also reveals a population with a profound attachment to its local environment and homeland.

Roberts work is an important influencer in my own as he acknowledges the important of the connection between people and their environment. The environment gives clues as to what the individual could be like. It also describes what the area around them is like and it effects. Although Roberts did travel the length of England, he also acknowledged the important of coming back to his roots in his work. Although this project that i am undertaking is my first photographic visit, i hope to possible continue this project, maybe coming back to it in 10-15 years time and revaluating work.

Like Soth, Roberts also likes the idea of a journey as a methodology of work. He highlights that a continuous journey creates unknown outcomes. Although my work will not be truly continuous in the way that Robert describes it, i feel that my work will have a sense of rhythm and pattern to it as i go from one side of Hamworthy to the other.
