Week 8

Predominantly this week I have been theoretical works as such as Goffman's Dramaturgical theory and looking into the 'the portrait' with regards to photography. Goffman's theory has really helped me to understand what underpins my work. It also allowed my to be critical of the creation of portraiture and take this into my next shoots. Looking into the theory of portraiture has been a really important element in my work, especially looking into Laura Mulvey's film theory into the idea of the 'male gaze'. Although tailored for filmography, i have been able to expand the idea to incorporation artists and evaluate this idea for older works of art where art was dominated by males. I then compared this to photography and my own experience and how i am able to combat this theory in my own work.
